Silviculture

Silviculture represents the core activity of the Enterprise, which includes the procedure of professional and planned implementation of measures for reforestation, tending and raising of new forests, as well as the production of forest reproductive material.

Long-term strategic goals of the Enterprise in the forestry field are: improved conditions of existing forests and an increased forest area.

At Enterprise level, silvicultural activities are performed on an average annual basis on ca. 45,500 ha (annual average for the period 2003-2018), of which afforestation on ca. 1,400 ha, natural regeneration on ca. 7,700 ha (9,495 ha in 2018), forest tending on ca. 35,100 ha and ancillary measures on some 1,300 ha.

Marking of Trees for Felling

The production of wood assortments is preceded by tree marking, which is the most important job in silviculture and forestry in general, and involves selecting, marking and recording trees to be cut.

In the production preparation process, the Enterprise aims at improving the work on marking of trees for felling, while providing professional staff and material and technical capacities.

Marking of trees for felling, at Enterprise level, is done annually on an average of 36,500 ha, whereby ca. 1,450,000 m3 of gross timber volume is marked (annual average for the period 2003-2018), with a growing trend particularly pronounced in the past few years (1,683,870 m3 of gross timber volume was marked in 2018).
