The area of Golija is characterized by refugial character of habitats, which allows the survival of tertiary flora. Golija, along with Mount Tara, represents a refugium of tertiary flora in Serbia and a significant center of genetic, species and ecosystem diversity in the Balkans and Europe.

Within the fishing area of the “Golija“ Nature Park there is a part of the Studenica River with tributaries, the Moravica with tributaries, the Brvenica with tributaries, part of the Ljudska River with tributaries, the upper courses of the Dramić Stream and Plešinska River, and other watercourses, as well as several lakes (Dajićko, Košaninova, Okruglica, etc.).

By analyzing the results, the presence of 6 fish species has been recorded in the fishing waters of the area. “Golija“ Fishing Area is typically salmonid in terms of abiotic and biotic characteristics, so the brown trout is the most common species and frequently the only one, especially in streams and rivers at altitudes above 500 m. Flowing water bodies at altitudes below 500 m, in addition to the trout, are inhabited by the schneider/spirlin (Alburnoides bipunctatus) and Danube barbel (Barbus balcanicus). In the Moravica there is also the common minnow (Phoxinus phoxinus), and in one part of the upper course of the Studenica also the European bullhead (Cottus gobio), as the only strictly protected species. The largest trout population is found in the upper course of the rivers Moravica, Brusnička, Brvenica and especially Studenica (average 563 pieces/km). In other rivers, the average trout population is about 267 pieces/km of the course.

The rivers and streams from the area of “Golija“ Nature Park generally belong to the Black Sea Basin. The Moravica and Studenica river basins, with their many tributaries, are the main carriers of geomorphological processes and relief forms. The density of the hydrographic network is estimated to be about 2100 m/km2. Running waters of “Golija“ Fishing Area generally have stable flows that are not significantly reduced even in the low water period, so they have been declared protected sources of national and regional importance. Most of the running waters of Golija belong to the salmonid region. The flowing waters of the Studenica and Moravica basins, and of other smaller tributaries, have large flows that do not decrease even in the period of low waters, where the brown trout is dominant.
