Silviculture&Forest Protection

Preservation, protection and enhancement of forest conditions, utilization of all forest potentials and their functions, and raising of new forests with the aim of achieving optimal forest cover, spatial arrangement and forest growing stock structure in the Republic of Serbia refer to a function of common interest. Forest is a valuable resource and has an invaluable significance for the environmental protection. Forests are a factor of stability of climate elements and phenomena, with a great impact on the stability of ecosystems. The psycho physiological influence of trees in the form of purified air, clean water, rests, gases, organic compounds, inorganic metallic substances and root particle that get into the atmosphere, water quality and quantity. Forests have hydrological and water protection role, as well as the significance in preventing floods. Forests improve soil nutrient and increase its fertility. Their protective function is reflected in the prevention of erosion and landslides. As the keepers of biodiversity and gene pool many species of plants, fungi and animals depend on it. Forests of Serbia represent 80% of our biodiversity.

Each human activity influences the environment and human health, indicating the growing interdependence of economies and the environmental quality. Human activities in the forestry sector, such as sustainable forest management, afforestation and regeneration of forests, may have a significant impact on reducing the total concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Depending on activities, the type of forest management may significantly contribute to the fight against climate change.

SE "Srbijašume" harmonizes its activities with an environmentally friendly, socially responsible and economically profitable approach to the forest management as well as with the concept of sustainable development. The company stability relies on forestry as the ground of all, but also on other forest resources as a significant potential, with the final aim of rural development.

One of the largest sources of environmental pollution is exhaust gases from industry and cars due to the use of fossil fuels. Biomass from forestry is a renewable source of energy that may be used as a substitute for fossil fuels in the production of heat and electricity. As opposed to the fossil fuels, biomass combustion does not increase the amount of CO2 and other harmful gases in the atmosphere, which has a positive impact on the environment. In the field of silviculture, SE "Srbijašume", professionally and planningly, conducts measures of regeneration, tending and raising of new forests and produces forest reproductive material.
